Lip augmentation, also known as lip fillers, enhance your lips and result in more volume and definition. Efficient lip-augmentation can replace the volume and definition that ageing has taken away; it can also be used to create balance between the upper and lower lip The procedure can reduce the appearance of fine lines, give you plumper lips giving you a younger appearance.
The most common lip filler we use is a dermal filler with hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of skin. It gives skin the elasticity and plumpness which gives us our youthful appearance. The most popular brand for fillers used these days is Juvederm. However after your consultation we will advise which we believe is best for you.
After the initial assessment and discussion as to what you achieve we will advise what we believe will work best for you. We will then get setup for the procedure.
We then need to numb the lips. There is anaesthetic in the filler itself but the effect of this limited so we prefer to numb you up prior as we want you to feel comfortable throughout the procedure. To numb the lips we apply a strong numbing cream, this usually takes about 45 minutes to take full effect. We will sometimes give local anaesthetic which provides a more pronounced anaesthesia.
Once the lips feel numb we then inject small quantities of filler into the border of the lips and the body of the lip depending on the desired effect.
Once the lips feel numb we then inject small quantities of filler into the border of the lips and the body of the lip depending on the desired effect. The procedure should take no longer than 15 minutes and is virtually painless. However, if you are ‘needle phobic’ we can numb the area with topical or local anaesthetic before injecting the treatment.
If a lip augmentation treatment is administered by anyone other than an experienced medical professional, it can create uneven results and an unsightly appearance. At ‘Flawless Skin Clinic’ we only employ fully-trained medical practitioners, and the filling gels we use in these procedures are gentle, natural and harmless.
There will be some swelling and bruising which lasts a couple of days. At the injections sites there maybe a bit of pain or an itchy sensation. You will be given a contact number to call anytime if you are concerned regarding your recovery. If you suffer from cold sores the treatment may initiate another outbreak. You can continue to take your normal medication to treat this.
You will need to take particular care around the filled area immediately following your treatment. Avoid unnecessary touching/pressure for the first six hours. We also advised to periodically apply an ice pack to keep the swelling and bruising down.
Your new lips will look the way they do until the filler is broken down by your body. The rate at which this occurs varies from person the person. The quicker your metabolism is the less time they will last. On average this is about 6-9 months.
Lip fillers are not suitable for anyone with severe allergies. You should also not consider dermal fillers of any kind if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Please note: Any procedure will only be undertaken after your face to face consultation with one of our qualified facial aesthetic clinicians. During this consultation a full assessment will be carried out and full list of cautions and contraindications discussed with you.
