Nasolabial & Marionette Lines

What are nasolabial folds & marionette lines?

As you get older you may begin to notice lines and wrinkles. These can be in the form of nose to mouth lines which are called the nasolabial folds. You may also notice lines from the edge of your mouth to your chin, these are called marionette lines. If you are a smoker you may also have lines around your top lip.

How do you treat the lines?

Facial dermal fillers can be used to smooth out wrinkles, folds or scars to give your face a younger, refreshed more plumped appearance. With age the fat pads of the face deteriorate and the skin on your face can lose its firmness and fullness.  Facial filler treatment can help improve the plumpness of these areas giving you that more youthful appearance

What does the procedure involve?

Your clinician will first administer anaesthetic to ensure you are numb so the procedure is not uncomfortable. This maybe topical or local anaesthetic. Topical will usually take 30-45 mins to take effect, local will work much quicker. We will then inject small quantities of filler into the areas where you have lines/wrinkles or indents. It should take approximately 20-30 minutes and the effects are instant.

Are there any side effects?

If dermal filler procedures are administered by anyone other than an experienced medical professional, it can create uneven results and an unsightly appearance. At ‘Flawless Skin Clinic’ we only employ fully-trained medical practitioners, and the filling gels we use in these procedures are gentle, natural and harmless.

There will be some swelling, redness and bruising which lasts a couple of days. At the injections sites there maybe a bit of pain or an itchy sensation, this must be kept clean to minimise risk of infection. You will be given a contact number to call anytime if you are concerned regarding your recovery.

Is there any specific care I should take after the procedure?

You should refrain from touching or rubbing the filled area for six hours after your treatment is complete. It is also important to avoid subjecting the filled area to extremely high or low temperatures. Also it is important to be gentle when washing the filled area of your face.

How long to fillers last for?

It will normally last between 6-12 months. Although each person is different, some will find it doesn’t last the full 6 months. This usually depends on how quickly your body breaks down the filler.

Are there any cautions or contraindications to the treatment I should be aware of?

You should not have fillers if you have severe allergies, are pregnant or breastfeeding. Other than that yes you should be fine to have the treatment done however this is subject to a full medical history and face to face consultation and full facial assessment to see if it is the right treatment for you.

Please note: Any procedure will only be undertaken after your face to face consultation with one of our qualified facial aesthetic clinicians. During this consultation a full assessment will be carried out and full list of cautions and contraindications discussed with you.
